DANNENBRINK- HENDRICKS FAMILY HISTORY

(continued)

August's daughter, Eleanor, learned the telephone business early in life as a six year old sitting on the laps of telephone operators. Her mother Maggie worked as an operator. Eleanor loved the Magneto switchboard and knew nearly everyone's phone number. After attending college for two years in Berkeley, California, she returned home and managed the front office of the phone company. Among her many duties, she posted payments and collected on outstanding balances. She loved talking with the customers. She even enjoyed the challenge of learning to use a computer as the company began to modernize.
